Video Tuesday — The Mystery First Glimmer Performance

Okay, I’m not gonna lie. I love it when you all geek out and talk about the most arcane details of certain live performances. I love when you can pinpoint where the hell Paul’s playing based on song and outfit and stage. It’s not that I even care to know or to commit such things to memory. We all know that I’m the worst obsessed fan ever. But I love that you guys know — that’s what’s awesome. So, I think that makes me all y’alls obsessed fan. Or something.

So here’s another challenge First Glimmer somewhere (please don’t let the fact that Paul’s hair then matches my current “hairstyle” alarm you):

8/15/93. This was an MTV studio performance (on 120mins?).

There was also an interview portion where Paul seemed rather annoyed.

Yeah, it’s the 1993 MTV performance; one of my sisters has the fucker. Westerberg was not pleased with the performance MTV aired. Evidently he gave it his all on the first take, not expecting to be asked to do a 2nd take, but finished the job & left in a hurry. The interview segment was painful to watch since it was conducted by one of the biggest MTV knobs: Lewis Largent. Jesus I wince just thinking about what a moron this guy was;Westerberg asked him if he had any requests & the guy couldn’t come up with anything! Kennedy was another MTV loser Westerberg got stuck with 3 years later. Call it suffering for one’s art.

Lewis Largent, thanks Jim. For the life of me, I couldn’t remember that wanker’s name.
