Yeah, you can find the 1989 Tommy/Paul hotel room interview on Youtube. It’s pretty entertaining on many levels & I feel sorry for their plight – the interview is conducted by 2 dolts, one of which starts a fire – but Paul does say “Fire the drummer” when asked the future plans for The Replacements.

There’s another interview from around this same time. I’d have to dig it out & re-watch it for all the details, but it’s Paul & Tommy in a hotel room being interviewed poorly by some girl… At one point they joke about how they’re thinking of kicking Chris outta the band. Granted, their both drunk but it sure seemed awfully cold.

Re: Paul slamming Chris’ drumming abilities: I wonder if that had anything to do with Chris not playing drums on the new songs for the greatest hits disc(he only did backup vocals iirc).

Thanx mmr421! The Musician mag interview (from 1989 w/ The Replacements on cover) reportedly was the nail in the coffin for Chris wanting to do anything with the band. In it, Paul pretty much slammed Chris’ talent as a drummer & everything fell to hell ( although the ice was already thin by that point)I still wonder why Paul would do that to a band mate/buddy; it’s one thing to do it in private, but in the press? Man, hell no. I don’t blame Chris for his reaction.

Their attitude toward Chris Mars in this interview is very telling, as far as his reluctance to do any type of reunion with these guys. Something tells me that the last years of the band weren’t very fun for Chris, and he had really become an outsider to Paul and Tommy’s friendship.
Not to mention recent interviews, where Paul has slammed his drumming abilities.

hah this is my vid! i put it up a couple days ago. i also put up a vid of the guys when they made “when it began” and a vid of bash and pop when they did letterman. and i put up the two parts of them when they did snl, you can see the credits and the dude introducing them. get the dvd on angryyoungandpoor.com. the last 1/2 of the second dvd doesnt really work, though.
