Back to the Blogs & AOBTS: I agree with Erlewine’s (All Music) assessment that Jim Walsh’s chumminess with The Replacements “can come across like a self-congratulatory club in print.” Walsh is no doubt a skilled writer & his love for this band undeniable, but I tend to agree with a musician buddy who thought parts of AOBTS (citing the first 40 pages)”read like an online messageboard.” However, I still recommend the book since it’s the first devoted to – in the words of NY Times David Carr – “a band that could, but didn’t.”
