First, let me say that I LOVE the TwinTone stuff but...
Pleased To Meet Me is one of my favorite 'Mats albums! Alex Chilton, Nevermind, Valentine, Can't Hardly Wait, etc... The album is brilliant! I'm sure that Jim Dickinson had a lot to do with that. For PTMM as well as Big Star Third, etc..., thank you Jim.

I'm a fan of his work except for the freaking horns debate on CHW...i just hate them. I cant get over them to this day. A tired, useless, endless debate... but worth restoking every once around the year. I applaud the bold move, but I just can't stand them. So many better versions out there...

PTMM was the album where I discovered the 'Mats. It wouldn't have been the same without Jim's work behind the boards.

p.s. For those desparate for some Westerberg material, I have posted a somewhat specious speculation about "The Ledge": http://uselessdoug.blogspot.com/2009/09/paul-westerberg-does-not-wear-eyeliner.html

This is way over due and i've been meaning to post this since i heard the news of Mr. Dickinson's passing- I heard this great commentary on Bob Dylan's theme time radio hour regarding Jim Dickinson and his band Mud Boy and the Neutrons, this dialogue was given as a description of Jim Dickinson prior to his passing and as a introduction to a song, i just think it's really great and also a good indication of how truly cool this guy was.... Bob said "JIm Dickinson was a musical maestro from Memphis way.... Jim Dickinson played with Ry Cooder, The Stones, Aretha Franklin, Even played with me (Bob Dylan) on occasion-He was never one of those guys who could fit in a pigeon hole... he was just at home producing Screaming Jay Hawkins as he was producing Big Star or The Replacements. He was the kind of guy you could call if you needed someone to play piano, fix a tractor, or make red cole slaw from scratch-he passed it on to his kids too, his son's have a a band called The North Mississippi All Stars, but right now it's daddy's turn to shine." I love this description of Jim Dickinson and it's even cooler hearing Dylan's voice stating all of this...sounds like he was a good guy and someone who will be missed in a personal sense as well as the musical world.
