Well it ain’t lost yet so it’s gotta be a winner.

Let It Be, dominant throughout the whole tournament, prevailed 38-25 over Tim in the championship match. What put Let It Be over the top? Was it the reissue, Jodi’s campaigning, or Lay It Down Clown? So what did we learn from all this? Folks like All Shook Down more than I thought. Like the Chicago Cubs, Sorry Ma may not be the strongest entry, but it’s got the most die hard fans. Anything else?

Well not literally those two obviously, but their namesakes. It’s Let It Be vs Tim for the the championship. And you thought deciding between All Shook Down and Hootenanny was tough! Voting open till end of day Wednesday. Thursday we crown a champion.

We’re down to the Final Four and, just like this year’s men’s basketball Final Four, it’s all number one seeds. Much to the dismay of some, Hootenanny just couldn’t keep up with All Shook Down. Here’s where we stand (right click to embiggen)

Mats Madness Round 3

We’re into the Elite Eight folks! Not many surprises in Round 2. 14 Songs put up a good fight but with the reissues coming out I expected Sorry Ma to beat it. I thought Once, Twice might give All Shook Down a run for its money, but not so much. Without question though the match of the tournament so far was Don’t Tell A Soul vs. Stereo. It was neck and neck well into the fourth but Mr. Rabbit played some big D and We May Be The Ones hit a couple of clutch free throws to eek out a one point victory. Here’s the latest bracket (right/ctrl click to embiggen):

Friday Night has been strong so far, but does it have any chance against powerhouse Tim? Sorry Ma has been on the ropes a bit in the early rounds. Does it have any more left in the tank? And Hootenanny vs All Shook Down sounds like the game of the week. Voting is now open for this round through end of day Monday.

Mats Madness Round 2.1

So there’s been issues raised with the legitimacy of the voting since people can vote more than once in each round. Therefore I’m pulling the plug on the current voting in round 2 and asking you to kindly redirect all your voting to the following site:

You should only be able to vote once now from here on out so make it count! Sorry about all this unprofessionalism. Things will go smoother next year when we vote on best song! We’ll give this round an extra day now and let it run until end of day Wednesday. With the reissues being released on Tuesday and being fresher in people’s minds, will that affect the voting? Hmmm…interesting.

OK, here we go to settle once and for all (yeah right) which is the best Replacements or Replacements related album. Here’s the bracket (right click or control click to get a better view) In order to come out to a nice even number to make the bracket work best, I included everybody’s solo albums plus a few oddities (Nothing For All, The Shit Hits The Fans, etc.) but left out anything that didn’t have a significant amount of original Mats material (Singles Soundtrack, the Rhino best of, etc). If you feel I’ve left anything out that absolutely should have been included…just don’t tell anyone. I’m sure people will find fault with some of the seedings. I tried to be objective and base them on what I feel the general consensus is among fans, but I’m sure some of my personal bias came through. But hey, just like in sports sometimes you get a bad call and you’ve just got to deal with it. I’ve set up an offsite poll for you to make your selections for each matchup in round 1. Let’s give it a week and say the voting for round 1 will close at end of day Wednesday April 16th at which point the winners will move on, the losers will go to cutout bins and yard sales, and I’ll post an updated bracket.
