Westerberg makes “Bastards”-like cameo in Glen Campbell video

“Westerberg — who has been out of the public eye for about five years now and famously didn’t appear in the Replacements’ video for “Bastards of Young” — makes a surprising yet typically coy cameo appearance in the video for the title track of Campbell’s acclaimed new album, “Ghost on the Canvas.” The video actually starts off as a direct homage to and/or imitation of the classic “Bastards” clip, with Westerberg playing the part of the dude loafing on the couch staring at the stereo speaker. Paul reappears throughout, too (though not as part of the weirdly hip, young band behind Campbell). The Minneapolis music legend’s involvement makes sense (sort of) if you know that he wrote the “Ghost” song for Campbell. And if you’re a fan, you should know it right away upon hearing the song — classic Westerberg”.

Paul Westerburg: The Replacements’ frontman displayed the punk rock power in the Melody Maker’s pickups, using his 1962 model for classic songs like “Answering Machine.” With plenty of growl in both of their voices, Westerburg found his perfect foil in the guitar.

Grandpaboy’s Last Stand

I got my Mr.F single in the mail today, along with the download card for Grandpaboy’s Last Stand. Sadly, the songs on the 45 are not available for download, at least not that I can see. So, I’m going to have to wait until someone digitizes the songs to actually listen to them since I don’t have a record player.

Grandpaboy’s Last Stand is one, giant mp3. I loaded it into iTunes and it comes in at 35:39. I’m about four minutes in and thus far it’s a bunch of nonsensey noodling to me akin to 49. Oh, at about 5 minutes we get a song like thing. It should be, well, interesting to say the least.

Anyone else get the single yet?

UPDATE: there’s a few songs. At about 10:58 he starts singing about anyone looking for god save for Elrod Puce. . . we need someone to divide this file up ala 49:00.

Well, he already did I guess. Boo. According to the Strib:
“The Replacements frontman reserfaced yesterday, and the surface he chose was the turf at Target Field. He was filmed there for an in-the-works documentary “40 Nights of Rock ‘n’ Roll.”

Am I the absolute last to know everything?

Did y’all see this about Glen Campbell’s new album?

“Meanwhile, Raymond said, “an unbelievable amount of people” wanted to be part of the current project, which will feature all original material. Westerberg wrote the title track, and other collaborators include members of the Dandy Warhols, guitarist Steve Hunter, former Prince cohort Wendy Melvoin and drummer Josh Freese. The album’s release date is pending a label deal.”

Interesting, yes?
