I hate to do this because whenever Laurie Lindeen is mentioned that freaky freak freak show with all the fake names comes out to play, but if you’re not reader of Ms. Lindeen’s blog (and, you know, you should be because it’s really well written), you might take an interest in her latest post, which mentions this:
Middle-aged husband injured playing a child’s game. I don’t blame him a bit. Sometimes you’ve got to push back against time.
“You look familiar, have we met?” says the orderly wheeling he and his very swollen foot into a holding area.
“Nah,” my husband says.
I peek behind the curtain to assess our surroundings.

My totally wild, speculative guess? He slid playing kickball in the front yard with the young’un and twisted his ankle.

You?

The Village Voice’s Sound of the City blog has a new Q&A with Laurie Lindeen and includes this gem:
Was there anything you included that upon reflection you’d have preferred to leave out?
When I got the final edits, I got a long letter from my editor saying something like either you develop the characters of your father and Paul or leave them out—of course, those are my two most complex, confusing relationships. I’m so naïve sometimes…some people focused on the 10 out of 321 pages Paul appears and decided the book was about bagging a rock god. I thought I left plenty of red flags in there? I do regret the things that my very private mom found difficult to see in print, but I’d still leave them in.

Ted Barron the photographer who took the picture of Our Man Paul and Alex Chilton featured in the liner notes for the re-issued Pleased to Meet Me talks about the night the picture was taken.

1. Jay Taco’s weekly cracker review — this week the Wheat Thin, vile wafer of Satan or delicious, nutritious snack?
2. Update on our petition to get Our Man Paul on Live from Daryl’s House
3. Just more Hall & Oates content in general
4. Paul Westerberg: Vile wafer of Satan or delicious, nutritious snack
5. Sixteen different ways to spell nutricious and how none of them have anything to do with Paul Westerberg
6. Blasty’s weekly poetic waxing about Laurie Lindeen
7. This Week’s list of Paul Westerberg shout-outs by Craig Finn

See what I’m talking about?

For those of you who are like me and don’t subscribe to rock and roll magazines like Spin, it was a delight to see The Replacements article go online. It’s a pretty great read. If you got the time give it a look.

If you haven’t been living under a rock you know that Rock Band 2 is set to include the ‘Mats’ “Alex Chilton” and a song off Guns ‘N Roses “Chinese Democracy.” Does that meant it includes two ‘Mats related songs?

Over at her Petal Pusher blog, Laurie Lindeen talks about how she has unwittingly turned into Nanny Narc.

I am linking to this record review for two reasons:
1. I know not one, but two people named Ryan Smith (and neither of them is the dude mentioned in the review)
2. I like the writing, and that the writer said, “It also could be the best six Paul Westerberg songs that Paul Westerberg neither wrote nor recorded. That’s a huge compliment (If you just said “Who?” just stop reading now and Google the genius that is Paul Westerberg, The Replacements, and head out and purchase his amazing solo work. Now. Really. Google. Now.).”

Finally, I have decided that today is our first anniversary. We made a few random posts in June of 2007 and one on like July 3, but it really seemed to get kicking in on the 16th of July.

Yay us!

How Foreigners View America. I’m not usually one to pimp Klosterman, but this is pretty funny and contains this bit of hilariousness:
Someone selected Ryan Adams. This made me happy for two reasons. The first is that I suspect Adams is something of an underrated semi-genius, and I like the fact that he’s more appreciated in places where nobody cares whether or not Paul Westerberg hates him.

Pointless Confession of the Week: I loathe the Tommy Stinson song “Without a View” it always leaves me lunging for the music player and pressing skip as fast as I can.

Laurie Lindeen will be doing a reading with Rockstar Mommy Judy Davide in Royal Oaks on July 27th. This may or may not be in the Chicago area. I cannot tell. But I suppose if you know where Royal Oaks is, you’ll be stoked.

Over at Minn Post Jim Walsh offers up a glimpse at the liner notes in the ‘Mats reissues coming out next week.

Earlier this week, local TV Station WCCO did a pretty nice, lengthy piece on Laurie Lindeen calling her the “coolest lunch lady.” Includes a very awkward Westerberg family picture, and snippet from the Fakebook event last summer.
