Of course I should have known the list would be incredibly wrong when the first line of the piece starts out like this, “Tim is arguably the best Replacements record, so given the quality of its greatest songs. . .” We all know that “Let it Be” is the best ‘Mats album.

I don’t think any version of Can’t Hardly Wait can be rated highly enough. The song is brilliant. If I were gonna place bets on an overrated song, I’d put my money on something like, oh, I don’t know, Answering Machine maybe.

Of course the songs the author chose don’t seem to overrated so much as just duds smooshed between really fucking good songs. Is that what makes them overrated? I don’t think so. Overrated would seem to me unworthy of the acclaim lavished upon the subject (like the Watchmen comic).

So what do you think of the list? Total BS right?

I have to admit I gagged a little when Bob popped the dude’s zit. Bleh.

When I form a band some day, it will be all girls and we’ll only play ‘Mats covers and we’ll be called Sweet Georgia Breezes.

For those of you who are like me and don’t subscribe to rock and roll magazines like Spin, it was a delight to see The Replacements article go online. It’s a pretty great read. If you got the time give it a look.

If you haven’t been living under a rock you know that Rock Band 2 is set to include the ‘Mats’ “Alex Chilton” and a song off Guns ‘N Roses “Chinese Democracy.” Does that meant it includes two ‘Mats related songs?

Over at her Petal Pusher blog, Laurie Lindeen talks about how she has unwittingly turned into Nanny Narc.

I am linking to this record review for two reasons:
1. I know not one, but two people named Ryan Smith (and neither of them is the dude mentioned in the review)
2. I like the writing, and that the writer said, “It also could be the best six Paul Westerberg songs that Paul Westerberg neither wrote nor recorded. That’s a huge compliment (If you just said “Who?” just stop reading now and Google the genius that is Paul Westerberg, The Replacements, and head out and purchase his amazing solo work. Now. Really. Google. Now.).”

Finally, I have decided that today is our first anniversary. We made a few random posts in June of 2007 and one on like July 3, but it really seemed to get kicking in on the 16th of July.

Yay us!

Someday, I am going to populate this list with nothing but links to The Replacements movie or the The Replacements cartoon or knee replacements. Why? Because that would make me laugh. I should have probably done it this week, because I didn’t find anything of interest to link to. Boo to the hoo.

However, if you’re looking local (Minneapolis/St.Paul) and you’re looking for something to do this Friday, June 6th, and you weren’t invited to my birthday party (because my birthday is June 6th), you should go check out the How Was the Show 6th Anniversary Birthday Bash at the Turf Club.

Why? Because I am sure it will be filled with cool kids, and because one of the bands (the 757s) was described thusly: “First things first: These guys are capital-L Loud. The music, which is a mix of The Replacements ragged thunder and The Who’s jetliner roar, ends up sticking in your grey matter almost immediately.”. So, duh, you should go.
