Ok it’s not really a blog, but let’s not quibble. The Paulisded Guide to Paul Westerberg, grades Paul’s solo records. There is also some interesting talk about hummers at the end. You will have to visit the link to know what kind of hummers are being discussed.
Jezebel points out a strange Harry Potter-Paul Westberg connection.
Jefito complies a complete idiot’s guide to the Lemonheads, where he compares Evan Dando to Paul Westerberg, and even discusses how Dando might be perceived differently if he looked more like Westerberg or Bob Mould.
“Yet it’s not the technical prowess that matters on these albums; it’s the material.”
Loved reading that and hope the drumming haters did too; and his grades of “A” for Suicaine and Folker make this guy all right in my book.
while evan dando never “took” with me to the degree paul did, i have long made the comparison. “hate your friends” is very much like “sorry ma…”, so on & so forth.
Re the Lemonheads: it seems like “Into Your Arms” was on every mixtape I made or received for a couple years there. And while I’m not the hugest of fans, I do have to admit that “Rick James Stlye” rocks my world.
i’d like to give a shout out to the lemonheads’ “favorite spanish dishes”. their/his version of different drum is awesome, and frankly the acoustic take on the misfits’ skulls is outstandingly disarming.
I’m glad you found that Idiot’s Guide. I’m the one who made the Westerberg comparison; I really do think Dando’s lyrics in his prime rival those of Westerberg in his prime, but a lot of critics seemed threatened or put off by Dando’s good looks. Of course, all those interviews in the early ’90s in which Dando came across as a complete airhead didn’t help.
