So last week I went to go see Jim Walsh read at the Barnes & Noble in the Galleria. I always say it’s the on at the Galleria, because I like to say Galleria and when I write I actually say all the stuff I’m writing in my head.
While I was there, I got my book signed, and then because I am a kind and gentle queen of the underground, I got another one signed for one lucky reader!
Woo to the hoo.
As you can see it’s an actual copy of All Over But the Shouting and not just a piece of paper that I had him sign in an attempt to fool all you.
The inscription is “Hey You, Remember singing iwilldare.com like we were headed for the promise land? Cheers, Jim Walsh.” It’s a riff on a Mad Ripple lyric from the song Homebodies (Don’t be careful with your love).
So what do you have to do to get this hot little number sent your way? Just leave a comment here telling us why you want the book or why you deserve the book or why you visit paulwestberg.net or why birds suddenly appear every time you are near.
Then we’ll put all the commenters names in a hat and draw one lucky winner.
Here’s Jim Walsh and his friends singing “Homebodies”

RJ, I don’t care what Wolfdogg says about you, I think you’re the bomb diggety!
Girl knows what she’s talking about RJ – thanks for the link. I really, really enjoyed this book. I’ve been a fan of the Mats for awhile and have read as much as I could find about them but Walsh really did a great job of filling in a lot of the blanks. Not being from the area or getting into the band until the later years I always felt like I missed out on the excitement. Walsh nailed that for me and made me feel like I was there going through it like those of you who had. Seeing the evolution of the band in this way not only gives me a fresh appreciation for the Mats but makes me a little envious of those who got to see part of it firsthand. I don’t necessarily deserve this but a Walsh penned copy of this book would hold a prominent place on my book shelf. Of course, the book would be even more valuable if a certain writer signed it on page 30 as well.
Please do not enter me in this contest as I don’t ever remember.
Besides, I was disappointed in the book; too many pictures. However, it is nice of you to have bought an extra copy, now your table is steady?
I ditto that motion , Ted. Just glad to hear Walsh is living up to everyone’s expectations. A buddy of mine knows Jim from his days at Pioneer Press, & Jim is simply the best (yeah, better than all the rest)
I’m writing my entry as an oral history of this contest:

I just bought a new coffee table this past weekend. I’m having the outlaws in for Xmas so I’m trying to spiff up the place before they arrive. I’ve placed my Rolling with the Stones book by Bill Wyman front and center on the new table. Jim’s book would be the perfect compliment!
I want to thank Jodi for awarding me the book. The rest of you may now cease responding.
p.s. – Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the sky.
EDIT – okay, it appears that the book I won is ‘The Big Book of Baby Names’.
carry on.
Don’t listen to PZP, he’s full of it! The book is still up for grabs.
Why I Want The Book: So the people who deserve the book will be really, really jealous… and so that I can stop reminding myself to go to the book store to pick up a copy.
I will palce the book in my little trunk of Mats goodies, safely wedged between my original Shit Hits the Fans and my Im in Trouble 7 inch, all of which will be buried with me when I die. Thousands of years from now, my crusty bones will be dug up, and future generations will enjoy this gem of l find.
Undoubtedly, this book will then be place in the Louvre right next to Hammurabi’s Code of Law.
So, you got that going for ya if you throw it my way.
Well, I’m kind of a new ‘Mats fan and I enjoyed reading your posts here. They were pretty much before my time (I was born in the year Let It Be came out) so I didn’t have many chances to actually see them live, and this book would be perfect as I will be able to catch up & hear all the first-hand accounts of them. 🙂
Welcome, John!
(does this post count as a second entry in the contest for me?)
Yes blasty. Which means this one counts for me too.
Alright!
I want to put in an entry for my sister, BlastT. She posts on the Man Without Ties board, but not here.
so, who won?
Hey… I want that book now, I never had any chance to buy that here in the Philippines. Pls. let me win.
Jodi
My sister BlastT wanted me to thank you for the book. She would have thanked you herself, but this whole “one sibling to a messageboard” rule stops her from doing that.
She said that she has a special place on her shelf for her most treasured books, and this one is going right next to her limited edition of Petal Pusher- the one with all of the pictures, and with her name spelled Laura throughout.
Thanks for making my sister so happy. I haven’t seen her this excited since the warden extended her conjugal visit time to 1 hr, on account of her good behavior!
