Over at the STrib, Chris Riemenschneider wrote a lovely obituary of Slim Dunlap, who died December 18, 2024.

Slim died 12 years after being left bed-ridden by a stroke. I’m almost two years into surviving my own stroke, so I got some feels I’m not dealing with until after the holidays. Yay, compartmentalization.

In the meantime, if you’re not familiar with Slim’s solo work. Give this one a whirl.

As I recently pointed out, the economic toll of recovering from a stroke is no joke.

Today it was announced the Dunlap family is having a moving sale to help pay for Slim’s “ongoing care and medical costs.”

You can get all the details on the estate sale & get a gander at the goods too! The sale starts July 13th.

Rockin’ Here Tonight out Now

The Rockin’ Here Tonight the two-CD compilation that benefits Slim Dunlap is out now. I guess it came out yesterday, but I decided it came out today. Oh well. All that matters is you can get it now. And you should!

Chan Polling’s cover of “Chrome Lipstick” (my favorite Slim song because I am a narcissist that loves songs featuring the word Chrome) is super rad. Also, Patterson Hood & The Downtown Rambler’s on “Hate this Town” (which I missed the first time around) is great. I could go on and on, but I won’t.

The entire Songs for Slim project was spearheaded by former Replacements manager Peter Jesperson, who now works at New West Records, with additional support from Twin Cities writer PD Larson and Tommy Stinson’s manager Ben Perlstein. Jesperson says he got the idea to do a benefit album within days of hearing about Dunlap’s stroke.
