Mats Madness Round 3

By 24.Apr.0820 Comments

We’re into the Elite Eight folks!  Not many surprises in Round 2.  14 Songs put up a good fight but with the reissues coming out I expected Sorry Ma to beat it.  I thought Once, Twice might give All Shook Down a run for its money, but not so much.  Without question though the match of the tournament so far was Don’t Tell A Soul vs. Stereo.  It was neck and neck well into the fourth but Mr. Rabbit played some big D and We May Be The Ones hit a couple of clutch free throws to eek out a one point victory.  Here’s the latest bracket (right/ctrl click to embiggen):

Bracket3Friday Night has been strong so far, but does it have any chance against powerhouse Tim?  Sorry Ma has been on the ropes a bit in the early rounds.  Does it have any more left in the tank?  And Hootenanny vs All Shook Down sounds like the game of the week.  Voting is now open for this round through end of day Monday.

    Dear Voters,

There is no way NO WAY ASD is better than Hootenanny. What’s wrong with you?

    Love,
    Jodi

  • pl says:

Sorry, ASD was my first love…

  • Jay says:

Really. That sucks. Must be emotionally scarring.

  • pl says:

Not really. It’s still around for emotional support.

  • Some Guy says:

That’s a really tough one for me because believe it or not All Shook Down was the first Replacements album I ever heard. The second? Hootenanny. So they both hold a special place in my heart.

  • blasty says:

Sorry Ma is getting beaten worse than PW’s drum kit.

    Just sayin’…..

  • Jay says:

shit, im glad we made it this far….
sorry ma has been my one constant since 7th grade.
and that was a long ass time ago .
    sigh

  • Jimdracula says:

Ditto the All Shook Down love.

  • Jodi says:

All Shook Down was my first ‘Mats album too but still can it compare to Sorry Ma? NO!

  • Jodi says:

Er, it can’t compare to Hootenanny either. Sorry. I just woke up from a nap.

  • Jay says:

i cant believe ASD was this many peoples first exposure to the mats. You must of been knocked on your ass by every single album the y did you put on after that. I like the dog picture. I have a big print of it from that photgrapher. He did a bunch of cool shots that are in a mini portfolio he sent out a long time ago (im an art director so i get all these phtographer promos)- ill find em and send em in here. Theres a great paul tommy shot that hasnt really made the rounds.

  • Placemat says:

Jodi, your nuts. ASD vs Hoot was a killer. I really had to think about it.

ASD has some killer tunes, but in the end, I had to go with Hoot.

    The Attitude, Bob’s Guitar & Westerberg’s Voice.

The sound of Paul’s voice on the whole record is just the best.

  • Placemat says:

Jay, I for one am very interested in seeing the photos. Very cool.

  • Jake says:

    I second that motion

  • mmr421 says:

    third

  • mmr421 says:

I agree with Jodi, I like Sorry Ma and Hootenanny much more than ASD.
Anyone know where I can get the mp3s of Tommy when he was on Jim Rome? Thanks

Is this the interview for the Mats best-of cd, where PW didn’t show up?
